I am participating in 21 Secrets over at Dirty Footprints Studio, and I ran out of gesso. I know – how is that even possible? Anyway, in and amongst my panic, I got notice of a shipping special last weekend at Cheap Joe’s. I went on over to look and found that they had half gallons (!!) of Liquitex Basics Gesso for $5.39!! Even with a 50% off coupon at Michael’s or A.C.Moore, I cannot even get 8 ounces for that price. So I ordered. Only to read that it is on back order. That’s OK, patience is a virtue. Behold my wonderment when a package arrived today. (I had been told about a month.) Then I opened the package.
Suffice it to say that whoever put together the catalog cannot know basic math. For a start, the on-line item says 437ml. The actual bottle says 473ml, so we know they suffer at least from dyscalculia (like dyslexic, but numbers). BUT – 473ml is 15.99 ounces. So they can’t do math, since a half gallon is 64 ounces. SIGH.
Don’t get me wrong, it is still a bargain, but it will make me think twice before I order from there again. And when I called, after I got reconnected after being cut off, I found out that they were already aware of the error. They say it will be corrected in the next catalog. . .
On the plus side, my Le Petit Prince Moleskines arrived yesterday. This is my first foray into the Land of Moleskine. I must say, these are the Large size; they are roughly 5x8in. But they have lovely creamy paper and I am prepared to just use ballpoint if necessary in the lined one. I may have to reserve the unlined one for colored pencil or crayon. . .
So, what else is on my workspace today? Two chipboard ‘books’ from my lovely friend Elena, which I have gesso’d using my new supply. I must say, it goes down thicker and creamier than their regular Liquitex Gesso. I will be using these books for one of the workshops. I need to pick an intention and words to collage for my Revo’lution.
Have you all signed up for Roz Stendhal’s Strathmore Workshop? It’s free – and fun!
By the way, it is possible to wash gesso off of a cat’s hind paw. Ask me how I know. . .
